Conair are a trusted brand in small appliances and makers of upright clothing steamers, handheld steamers and travel steamers.
With so many different choices of fabric steamers within the Conair range alone, how do you know which one to choose? I’ve taken an in depth look at the range of Conair Garment Steamers, to help you make the best choice when buying a Conair steamer.
This is going to be a long post! There are a LOT of Conair steamers on the market today. If you’re short on time, I’ll start with my top choices, and the clear winner with the handheld steamers. Conair Turbo Extreme Steam – Best Handheld Steamer
The Conair Turbo Extreme Steam handheld steamer has 5 steam settings. It has a powerful 1875 watts of power and to date (February 2020), this is the most powerful handheld steamer available.
The benefit of higher wattage is the steam output, however, this can also be a downside with handheld steamers. As handheld steamers hold a smaller volume of water, using a high powered steamer such as the Conair Turbo Extreme Steam, means you may need to refill the water chamber more often, particularly if you are using the turbo setting. This Conair steamer holds 6.6oz of water.
The multiple steam settings are an advantage, you can use a lower steam setting for delicate fabrics such as silk or chiffon, or a higher steam setting for tougher wrinkles, such as linen and denim.
The Conair Turbo Extreme Steam handheld steamer heats up in 40 seconds, which is a fairly common heat up time for the best handheld steamers in 2020.
You’ll notice there are two horizontal lines on the sole plate. This is a unique design of the Conair Turbo handheld steamer, engineered to have steam exit the sole plate through both openings and essentially output more steam than other handheld steamers.
The turbo extreme steam also has 3 attachments and a built in fabric creaser. The attachments are a silicone band, fabric spacer and bristle brush. The silicone band is designed to slightly grab the fabric as you move the steamer across it to pull it taught. This helps to remove wrinkles.
The bristle brush can be connected with the silicone band and is useful for loosening fabric fibers. It can also help to remove fluff, lint and pet hair.
The fabric spacer is exactly as it sounds, a tool that clips on the steamer sole plate to give you additional space between delicate fabrics and the steamer itself. Personally, I don’t use this tool, but can be handy if you want extra protection on delicate or expensive fabrics.
On the top of the Conair Turbo Extreme Steam handheld steamer is a built in creasing tool, which is one of my favorite tools! This helps to straighten collars and cuffs and make creases in sleeves and pant legs.
At first thought I wondered about the positioning of the creasing tool, being on top of the steamer. As steam rises however, this is effective in making creases and as it is built in, you can’t lose the attachment!
Finally, the flat base design of the Conair Turbo steamer is very practical. The flat base gives you the ability to sit the handheld steamer down on the counter top in between garments and it will stay standing upright. Overall, a well thought out design by Conair.
Where to buy the Conair Turbo Extreme Steam Handheld Steamer
The Conair Turbo Extreme Steam handheld steamer is available to buy at Amazon, Target and Walmart. It is also available in beige and blue.
Conair Extreme Steam Fabric Steamer with Dual Heat
The Conair fabric steamer with dual heat is quite an interesting concept when it comes to clothing steamers. The water heats up in the reservoir producing steam, like most standing steamers do, but with the Conair steamer, when it reaches the steam head, the steam is heated again before being released from the steamer.
What does this all mean? 1800 watts of heating power in this upright steamer produces an excellent amount of steam, but to heat it again in the steam head creates smaller water molecules and a drier steam. The result is a fantastic output of steam and less dampness on your clothes.
The water tank holds 60oz of water and will steam for approximately 60 minutes. You can also pause the steamer when swapping over garments to maximize steam time and reduce energy costs. The water tank is removable for refilling.
The Conair dual heat steamer heats up in around 1 minute and reaches maximum temperature in just under 2 minutes. The dual heat steamer comes with a crease tool attachment and fabric brush attachment.
There is a single telescopic rod which can be adjusted to suit your height or collapsed down for storage. There is also a built in clothes hanger and trouser clips.
I like that there is a second lot of trouser clips at the bottom of the steamer – useful for clipping the bottom of pant legs and keeping them straight whilst steaming. Conair seem to be quite innovative with their design of clothing steamers, keeping practicality and the user in mind.
If you like the features of this dual heat steamer, keep reading below to the Conair Professional Dual Heat Steamer – you might be surprised!
Where to buy the Conair Extreme Steam Fabric Steamer with Dual Heat
The dual heat fabric steamer is available to purchase at Amazon or Walmart. Follow the buttons below to check the latest pricing:
Conair Ultimate Fabric Steamer
The Conair Ultimate Fabric Steamer has the same basic functions as the dual heat steamer featured above. There are 4 main differences:
- 1500 watts of power v’s 1800 watts of power in the dual heat steamer.
- Larger capacity water tank – 90 minute run time v’s 60 minute run time.
- No dual heating system.
- No attachments (fabric brush, creasing tool etc).
Other than above, the basics of the steamer are the same. The water tank is removable for easy refilling, if needed. The steamer hose is 5 feet long, as with the dual heat steamer. There is a single telescopic pole for height adjustment and easy storage. The clothes hanger and top and bottom trouser clips are the same.
The Conair steamer GS28 was a great steamer in its day. It has now been superseded with the dual heat steamer and as such is now almost half the price it used to be. If you are looking for a good quality steamer, with great basic features at a bargain price, definitely consider this steamer.
Where to buy the Conair Ultimate Fabric Steamer
Target, Walmart and Amazon are all sellers of the Conair Ultimate Fabric Steamer. At the time of writing, it was out of stock at Target, but click below to check if stock has returned. Pricing was similar across all 3 companies at the time of writing (February 2020).
I wouldn’t delay on purchasing this steamer, a great brand such as Conair is rarely seen at such a fantastic price.
Conair Tabletop Portable Garment Steamer
This is the Conair model GS65 – The Conair Portable Tabletop Fabric Steamer. It features the same dual heat technology as the Conair Extreme Steam Dual Heat Steamer.
At first I thought this dual heat steamer looks quite promising – a 75 minute run time, dual heat and 3 attachments included. It is a 1200 watt steamer, which means not as much power behind the unit itself for the output of steam when compared with the newer dual heat version.
The practicality of this portable steamer is questionable. I get that it sits on a tabletop and you can move it around, however, the box shows a person steaming curtains. There doesn’t appear to be any functional way to hold the steamer whilst steaming curtains?
If steaming clothes, you would need to hang them from a doorway, but where to put the steamer? You would need to bring a portable table with you to hold the portable steamer and this really doesn’t make any sense to me.
Perhaps if you are a quilter or sewing enthusiast and need to steam fabrics when laying flat, this steamer could be a good choice.
If the dual heat technology appeals to you, I’d spend a little more money and purchase the newer 1800 watt Extreme Steam Upright Dual Heat Garment Steamer.
I also couldn’t find any reviews on Amazon post 2018, which tells me no one is buying this steamer any more. You would think the price would reflect that, but (at the time of writing) it is more expensive than the Conair Ultimate Garment Steamer! It is also out of stock at Walmart.

Conair Compact Fabric Steamer
The Conair Compact Fabric Steamer is a very similar design to the Conair Ultimate Steamer, just on a slightly smaller scale. Surprisingly, it has 1600 watts of power, compared to 1500 watts with the ultimate fabric steamer.
For a compact steamer, this fabric steamer has some great features. As with most Conair steamers, the steaming hose is 5 feet long. It heats up in less than one minute and runs for approximately 60 minutes.
Featuring handy large wheels on the back and smaller castors on the front, this Conair steamer can be maneuvered around the house fairly easily, although only in one direction at a time with the fixed back wheels.
Although not pictured in the image, there is a telescopic pole that can be adjusted to suit your height. The steamer head hooks onto the top of the telescopic pole, however, the clothes hanger and trouser clips are missing from this model. You will need to use your own clothes hanger and skirt hanger to hang your clothes whilst steaming.
I like the steamer turns on and off with a foot pedal, saves bending over to operate this Conair steamer. A lint brush attachment and bristle brush attachment are included, but unfortunately, no creasing tool comes with this steamer.
At the time of writing (February 2020) the Conair Compact Fabric Steamer was a very similar price to the Conair Ultimate Fabric Steamer. I’ve compared the two side by side below, as it’s a tough choice with these two clothing steamers!
The Conair Ultimate Fabric Steamer is the better choice in my opinion. The winning detail is the included clothing hanger and trouser clips and longer running time. Such a tough choice!
Conair Deluxe Fabric Steamer
If you’re looking to combine the features of the Conair compact steamer and the Conair Ultimate steamer, the Conair Deluxe steamer seems to be it! Confused? You should be!
I’ll make this simple for you. The Conair Deluxe steamer has everything you want in a steamer, except decent steam power. It includes a crease attachment, the double trouser hangers, the built in clothing hanger, large water tank capacity and steams for up to 90 minutes. There’s even wheels.
BUT, it has 1200 watts of steam power, which means, it won’t have as much steam output as the other Conair steamers. Other Conair steamers have 1500, 1600 and 1800 watts of power. This steamer is also around $20 more expensive than the Conair Ultimate Steamer and Conair Compact Steamer (as at February 2020).
Having all the fancy attachments makes this steamer very appealing. But keep in mind 1200 watts of power may disappoint when it comes to tough wrinkles. If it were me, I’d buy the Conair Ultimate Steamer instead if you’re serious about steaming.

Conair Extreme Steam Deluxe Professional Steamer
The Conair Professional Steamer is another dual heat steamer from Conair’s fabric steamer range.
Like the Extreme Steam dual heat steamer, the Conair Professional steamer operates at 1800 watts of power, for excellent steaming results. The main difference with the professional steamer is the slimline boxy design and the steamer head that looks more like an iron.
The design of the steamer head is actually quite handy when steaming business shirts. The pointed tip gets up under collars and in between buttons as an iron would.
I am a big fan of creasing attachments to straighten collars, cuffs and crease sleeves of shirts, and the professional steamer doesn’t disappoint. There is a built in creasing tool on the steamer head. You could also run the iron head across the fabric, whilst using the Conair Steaming Mitt to achieve the same result.
The Conair Professional Steamer is activated by foot control. It includes two attachments, a fabric brush and soft cushion head for delicate fabrics.
The hose, steam head and attachments are able to be stored neatly in the base, so the entire steamer can be tucked away in a compact form when not in use. This is a great design.
As with the other Conair Dual Heat Steamers, the Professional Steamer heats the water in the base and then heats the steam again in the steam head. With 1800 watts of power, this is a fantastic steamer and at the time of writing (February 2020) was priced less than the Conair Upright Dual Heat Steamer.
The only thing that appears to be missing from the professional steamer is the double trouser clips at the base of the steamer. The professional steamer is also on wheels for easy maneuverability.

Conair Complete Steam
If you’re looking for a cheap Conair steamer, the Conair complete steam is it.
There’s nothing fancy about this Conair steamer, it heats up in around 60 seconds, has 1100 watts of power and a small 4.9oz water tank for around 5 minutes of steam time.
It has an 8 foot power cord, which is pretty impressive for a handheld steamer. It would make a great steamer to take away on holidays within the USA. The Conair Complete Steam is not suitable for international travel.
What lets the Conair Complete Steam handheld steamer down is its inability to be used horizontally as well as vertically. This steamer should be used in a vertical position only and not tilted any further than a 45 degree angle. Water will spit, splutter and leak if you do.
If you’re looking for a cheap Conair steamer and are happy to use it in a vertical position only, this could be a good choice.

Conair Dual Voltage Travel Steamer
If you are needing a dual voltage steamer for international travel, this is your option when looking at the Conair brand.
It’s tiny and intended for travel, so tucks nicely in carry on luggage. It does only have 450 watts of power and there are mixed reviews around this – some people love it and say it works well, others have said it does not work at all.
My suggestion would be to use it as a summer travel steamer for lightweight clothing that would normally be steamed on lower steam settings, such as chiffon and light polyesters.
450 watts is not likely to produce adequate steam to de-wrinkle linens, denim or thicker fabrics. If you are interested in the Conair Dual Voltage Steamer, click on the button below to check the latest price:

Conair Extreme Steam Handheld Steamers
There are many different models of handheld steamers in Conair’s Extreme Steam range. There are subtle differences between them, so I’ve presented them in a table below for easy comparison.
Please keep in mind there may be color variations of the above steamers as well.
I hope you enjoyed my round up of Conair Steamers! The newer model of the Extreme Steam Turbo with 1800 watts of power is a great choice for efficient handheld steaming. The dual heat technology of the Ultimate Steamer and Professional Steamers are also a great choice for steamers for home.
